American Idol

Since American Idol started in 2002 people have become famous for not only their good vocal skills but also their poor singing. We watch the auditions to see people make fools out of them selves just as we watch the auditions to hear the people who can really sing. In this video the girl looks normal enough when she walks in, but turns out to be a schizophrenic and horrible at singing. Even though this is a parody, it is not far off from some of the auditions. William Hung even got a record deal out of his horrible, but very amusing audition where he sang She Bangs by Ricky Martin.

I think that American Idol has given people a great opportunity to pursue their dreams but it also gives people wanting fifteen minutes of fame a chance to make a fool out of them selves, which is great for my own amusement. Although William Hung got to make a record after his audition, I highly doubt he has had much success in the music industry. This makes me slightly sad and embarrassed for all the people who auditioned thinking they really had a shot at a career in singing and got told by Simon that they were awful or horrendous or another one of his trade mark comments.
